To England With Love - A book by Karen Davidson Woodruff

"To England With Love" is the end product of five years of work by my wife, Karen Davidson Woodruff. Karen first discovered me through my web site, Mick's Virtual Whistle, in 2001 and she has played an important part in encouraging me to develop and maintain my site as well as doing the important work of transcribing several of the tunes for the creation of accompanying notation. Our love of traditional music and love of the whistle brought us together. Karen moved to England from Montana in the USA to marry me and make a life with me in England, back in 2003.

The book tells of the events that ultimately led Karen to exchange her settled and independent life in the USA for married life with an English man who played the whistle, moving to a country that she had never even visited before. It is the story of the power of music, especially traditional music, and its ability to change lives forever. It is a story that will interest anyone with an interest in whistle playing and in traditional music, those who have enjoyed visiting Mick's Virtual Whistle over the years, tying in music with travel, romance and the challenges of making a transition between two different cultures, especially one divided by a common language.
